Late Checkout: a mixed lighting AI photoshoot at blue hour

A woman with long blond hair reclines on a deep sofa, coffee jacket open, warm lamp on one cheek, blue window on the other

You get a pause in a design hotel suite at blue hour, with a warm floor lamp on one side and a cool dusk window on the other. Both temperatures meet across the face and the fabric in every frame, and no orange filter sits over them.

Six frames from this shoot

Five frames and one detail, made by haloshot from three phone photos of one person.

About the mixed light look

The window gives soft, broad blue-gray light, and the lamp's parchment shade throws amber that also bounces off a plaster wall. White balance sits between the two, so neither one wins. A 58 mm at f/2 from two to three meters keeps the person sharp, lets the room fall soft and adds a slight vintage bloom. On a tripod, 1/60 s blurs only a moving hand.

Clothes, place and when to pick it

Women wear a long raw-lapel coffee jacket over an ecru boat-neck knit and wide mocha satin trousers; men wear a wide unlined coffee jacket over an ecru crewneck and flannel trousers, both in suede loafers. It plays out on a deep velvet sofa and at the window. Choose it for a personal brand site, a dating profile or a calm portrait of your own face.

How to balance lamp and window light at blue hour

The lamp burns around 2700 K and the dusk sky 8000 K or more, so the face carries both. Their balance lasts about twenty minutes.

  1. Seat the model on a sofa between window and floor lamp, with a plaster wall beside the lamp for warm bounce.
  2. Lock the 58 mm on a tripod at f/2, 1/60 s, ISO 1600 to 3200, white balance near 4000 K.
  3. Start when lamp and window meter within a stop on the face; dim or move the lamp to match.
  4. Turn the face so each source lands on its own cheek, and shoot until the window goes dark.

Fit a high-CRI 2700 K bulb in the lamp; cheap LEDs add a green cast.
