About haloshot
haloshot is an AI photoshoot app made by Alex But, a creative director with more than 20 years in stage and show production. He writes each of its 110 shoots as a full art direction, the way a show is lit and staged, and every shoot page explains how to make the same look with a real camera.
Who art-directs the shoots
Alex But is a creative director and the founder of NAOS Studio, a multimedia studio for scenography, motion design, 3D and projection mapping. Since 2010 the studio has made stage content and visual concepts for artists and large events in 15 countries, including projects for landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa and a project that entered the Guinness World Records.
Stage work is lighting work: one source, where it hangs, what it hides. haloshot applies the same thinking to a portrait of you.
How a shoot is written
Every shoot starts like a lighting cue. It names the main light and where it sits, the lens and how far the camera stands, the clothes, the place and one camera trick that makes the frame: a prism over the lens, a bare flash, a four-second exposure, infrared film.
That written direction is what haloshot renders with your face. The example frames on every shoot page were made the same way, from three ordinary phone photos of Alex, the ones shown here.

How to shoot it for real
Each shoot page ends with set notes for photographers: where the light goes, which lens and settings to use, and what a real production would need, such as a built prop, a location permit or a composite. They are written to be useful on their own, with or without haloshot.
Examples: how to shoot prism echoes under a red light, how to light a portrait with bare on-camera flash.
What happens to your photos
Your three photos are used only to make your shoots. They are sent to the OpenAI Images API to render each image, are not used to train any model, and you can delete your photos and account at any time from the app. Details are in the privacy policy.
