ChatGPT image prompts vs haloshot
ChatGPT is OpenAI’s assistant, and since 8 September 2026 it makes pictures with ChatGPT Images 2.5: attach a selfie, describe a portrait and it makes a new image of you. haloshot is an AI photoshoot app: you add three photos of yourself, pick one of 124 art-directed shoots and get a free preview of five frames that share one light, lens, set and outfit. This page compares the two for portraits of you.
The short answer
ChatGPT costs nothing to start, takes any idea you can describe and lets you fix an image by chatting, so it is the better pick for a one-off picture or an idea of your own. haloshot only offers its 124 shoots and charges for HD photos after the free ones, but each shoot is planned in advance, so you write nothing and the five frames belong together. Both rely on OpenAI image models: haloshot sends your photos and the shoot’s plan to the OpenAI Images API.
How each one works
In ChatGPT you attach a photo and write what you want. When something is off, you say so in the next message and ChatGPT edits the image. OpenAI says Images 2.5 keeps the people in reference photos more recognizable. The light, the lens, the place and the clothes are still whatever you ask for, or whatever the model picks when you leave them out.
In haloshot those choices are already made. Each of the 124 shoots is a plan written by Alex But, a creative director with more than 20 years in stage and show production. You add three photos (face, half turn, full length) once, pick a shoot and get five frames of you in it, then keep the ones you like as 4:5 HD photos.
Hard Copy is one example: a 35 mm lens at f/8 and 1/200 s, a bare on-camera flash, a hard shadow on the wall and raw-edge tailoring. You don’t type any of it.

Which one to use
Choose ChatGPT if
- You already use ChatGPT and want a quick portrait without another account.
- The idea is your own, or a trend that no haloshot shoot covers.
- You want to change one detail of an image by asking for it.
- You need text, a poster or a banner in the same picture.
- You want to spend nothing.
Choose haloshot if
- You want five frames that look like they came from one session.
- You don’t want to write and debug prompts.
- You want a free preview first, then pay once per pack.
- You want 4:5 portraits sized for an Instagram feed.
- You want the setup spelled out: each shoot page lists the light and lens and how to shoot it for real.
What a written shoot plan changes
A prompt and a shoot plan describe the same things. The difference is who writes them and how often. In ChatGPT you write the light, lens, set, clothes and place for each request, and the model fills every gap, differently each time. In haloshot an art director wrote them once per shoot and they stay fixed, so frame five matches frame one.
The trade-off is range. ChatGPT can make a portrait in any style you name; haloshot can only make its own 124 shoots. If none of them is the look you want, use ChatGPT.
Pricing compared
| ChatGPT | haloshot | |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Free plan with limited image creation; at the limit you wait for it to reset | 1 preview (5 frames) and 2 HD photos for every new account |
| Paid | Go: more image creation. Plus: $20 a month. Pro: unlimited and faster image creation | Starter €4.99 for 10 HD, Shoot €9.99 for 25 HD, Studio €19.99 for 60 HD |
| How you pay | Free, or a monthly subscription | One-time packs; credits never expire |
| Limits | No fixed number of images published | 1 credit per HD photo; with any pack, up to 5 free previews a day |
OpenAI lists Plus at $20 a month. Go and Pro prices depend on your country and are left out here. Ten HD photos from haloshot cost €4.99 once, about €0.50 each; in ChatGPT the same number of portraits can cost nothing if they fit within the free limit. Prices checked 13 October 2026.
What happens to your photos
haloshot does not run inside ChatGPT. With your permission, your three photos and the shoot’s plan go to the OpenAI Images API, which renders each image. OpenAI states that it does not train its models on API data, haloshot does not train any model on your photos either, and you can delete everything from Account in the app. Details are in the privacy policy.
For photos you upload to ChatGPT itself, OpenAI’s privacy policy and your ChatGPT data controls apply.
Shoots to try against your own prompt
Each one is a full plan with five example frames, camera and light settings, and notes on making the same picture with a real camera.

Questions
Does haloshot use ChatGPT?
Not ChatGPT itself. haloshot sends your photos and the shoot’s written plan to the OpenAI Images API, which renders each image, and only after you allow it in the app. OpenAI states that it does not use API data to train its models.
Can I paste a ChatGPT prompt into haloshot?
No. haloshot has no prompt box. You pick one of its 124 shoots, and the shoot’s plan does the job of the prompt.
How many images can I make for free in ChatGPT?
OpenAI does not publish a number. Its help center says the free plan has a separate limit for image generation and that you wait once you reach it. Paid plans raise the limit. Checked 13 October 2026.
Are haloshot photos marked as AI-generated?
Yes. Every image carries Content Credentials (C2PA) metadata, added by OpenAI, that identify it as AI-generated. OpenAI says images made in ChatGPT carry C2PA metadata and an invisible watermark.
Can I use haloshot photos for work?
Yes. The terms allow personal and commercial use of the images made for you, such as social media, profile pictures, portfolios and covers. Do not use them where a real photograph is required, such as an ID document.
