Gemini (Nano Banana) prompts vs haloshot
Gemini is Google’s AI assistant, and its Nano Banana image model turns a selfie and a text prompt into a new picture. If you copy portrait prompts from social media into it, this page is for you. haloshot is an AI photoshoot app: you add three photos of yourself, pick one of 124 art-directed shoots and get a free preview of five frames that share one light, lens, set and outfit. Below, the two are compared for one job, portraits of you to post.
The short answer
Gemini costs nothing to start, follows any prompt you write and is the better tool for a single image or a look of your own. haloshot only offers its 124 shoots and charges for HD photos after the free ones, but every shoot is planned in advance: you write no prompt, and the five frames match each other.
How each one works
In Gemini you upload a selfie, paste or write a prompt and look at the result. If the light is wrong or the jacket changes from one image to the next, you ask for a fix in the next message. The prompt is the whole art direction, so the picture is only as specific as the words: which light, from where, which lens, which place, which clothes.
In haloshot the art direction is written before you arrive. Alex But, a creative director with more than 20 years in stage and show production, wrote each shoot as a plan. You add three photos (face, half turn, full length), choose a shoot and get five frames of you inside that plan. You keep the frames you like as 4:5 HD photos.
Tokyo Flash, for example, fixes a 28 mm lens tilted 12° from a low angle, a direct on-camera flash, orange, red and cold blue color, night, and a narrow street of wet asphalt. All five frames use the same setup.

Which one to use
Choose Gemini if
- You want to spend nothing, or you already pay for a Google AI plan.
- You have a look in mind that none of the haloshot shoots covers.
- You need one image now, not a set.
- You want to change a photo you already have, such as its background.
- You like writing and tuning prompts.
Choose haloshot if
- You want five frames that look like one session: same light, lens, set and clothes.
- You would rather pick a finished look than write a prompt.
- You want to see a free preview of yourself before you pay for HD.
- You prefer paying once for photos to a monthly plan.
- You want to know how the look is made: each shoot page explains how to shoot it with a real camera.
Why a matching set is harder with prompts
A viral prompt is written to make one striking image. Ask for a second one and the model works from the words again, so the backlight can move, the coat can change color and the street can become a different street. You can hold these steady by naming each element, repeating it in every request and editing the last image instead of starting over. That works, and it is the slow part of the job.
A haloshot shoot does that part in advance. The plan names the light, lens, set, clothes and location once, and all five frames come from it. The frames differ in pose and framing while the look stays the same, which is what you want for a carousel or a run of grid posts.

Ten HD photos from haloshot cost €4.99 once, about €0.50 each. Google shows prices for your country, so yours may differ from the US prices above. Prices checked 13 October 2026.
What happens to your photos
haloshot uses your three photos only to make your shoots. With your permission they go to the OpenAI Images API, which renders the images; neither haloshot nor OpenAI trains models on them, and you can delete everything from Account in the app. Details are in the privacy policy.
Gemini treats a photo you add as part of your prompt. Google explains how it handles that in the Gemini Apps Privacy Hub.

Questions
Is haloshot made with Gemini or Nano Banana?
No. haloshot renders its images through the OpenAI Images API, using each shoot’s written plan and your three photos as reference.
Can I use a viral Gemini prompt in haloshot?
No. haloshot has no prompt box: you choose one of its 124 shoots, and the shoot’s plan takes the place of a prompt. If the prompt you like has no matching shoot, Gemini is the better tool for it.
Is Gemini image generation free?
Yes, with a Google account. Google lists image generation with Nano Banana 2 on its free tier, at standard limits that it says can change. Google AI Plus ($4.99 a month in the US) and Google AI Pro ($19.99) raise those limits. Checked 13 October 2026.
How much does haloshot cost?
New accounts get 1 free preview and 2 free HD photos. After that, HD photos come in one-time packs: €4.99 for 10, €9.99 for 25 or €19.99 for 60. There is no subscription, and credits never expire. See pricing.
What photos does haloshot need?
Three photos of you where you like how you look: face, half turn and full length. Good light, no sunglasses or filters, only you in the frame.
